Contacting Electoral Roll
The Electoral Roll is a UK government operation that maintains the names and addresses of all of those who are registered voters. The Electoral Roll can be viewed online and is considered a public record. To be added to the Electoral Roll, those who meet the age and residency requirements for voting can register online or by post. Registered voters should also get in touch online or by post to update their contact details. All people age 16 or over who are British, EU, or Commonwealth citizens will be sent a letter asking them to register to vote. If they do not register after having been asked to do so, they may be fined 80GBP unless they have a valid reason for not registering (severe learning difficulties, lengthy illness).
UK residents who have just turned 16 may wish to contact their local Electoral Roll office if they have not received an invitation to vote. Those who are already registered to vote can get in touch with Electoral Roll support to update their contact details. For those who are eligible to register to vote in more than one place (students with different home and school term time addresses), they may wish to get in touch with their local Electoral Roll office to enquire about how to complete the application for this.
