The DFE (Department for Education) is a ministerial department of the UK government and oversees the education of those living in England who are under the age of 19 and are in primary, secondary, or further education. Scotland, Northern Ireland, and Wales have separate education departments. The present education department in England was formed in 2010, and it is supported by 18 agencies and public bodies including Ofsted, the School Teacher's Review Body, and the Standards and Testing Agency. The DFE creates and modifies educational policies and manages compulsory student testing, teacher observation, and curriculum standards. In 2014, a new National Curriculum was introduced for schools across the country which included computing and computer literacy.
Students, parents, teachers, principals, and others directly or indirectly involved in the education of children in England may wish to contact the DFE. The DFE support team can be contacted to make a complaint about its policies, for example. Teachers who have questions about their pensions can get in touch with the DFE, which is responsible for handling the pension program for educators. Teachers and Headteachers can get in touch with any questions about their standards reviews or with questions about the implementation of the new curriculum standards.
