Communicating Through Visitalk
In October 1999, Visitalk broke new ground in Internet telephony when it introduced a service that lets PC users locate,
dial-up, and connect with other PC users anywhere in the world. By using the virtual switchboard at www.visitalk.com,
callers can chat, discuss shared information on their PC screens, or see each other in real-time video.
As the Internet telephony market evolves, Visitalk will enable callers to connect with one another using any device
that provides Internet access. And because Internet calls bypass long-distance carriers, Visitalk offers its basic
services for a flat membership fee.
Visitalk is the only company with a comprehensive offering that includes:
- Virtual Switchboard: The Visitalk Website acts as a virtual switchboard by connecting users over the Internet. Actual calls are facilitated by IP conferencing software, such as Microsoft NetMeeting.
- Number Portability: Each Visitalk user has a 12-digit PCNTM, or Permanent Communications NumberTM - an Internet phone number that follows him or her anywhere in the world. Unlike a telephone number, which rings at a particular point on the telephone network, a PCN can be activated on virtually any device with Internet access - whether the user happens to be in New York, London, or Bangladesh.
- Permanent Global DirectoryTM: This "white pages" of the Internet lists the name and PCN of everyone in the Visitalk community. No other company offers this comprehensive resource.
- Presence Detection: While telephone companies provide dial tone, Visitalk provides "Web tone." By consulting the global directory, Visitalk users can tell who is online and available for a real-time call. Voicemail, Videomail and Instant Voice Messaging are available for off-line users.
- Standards-based Solution: Visitalk's open system works with a variety of communications softwares - including Microsoft NetMeeting, CUseeMe Networks CU-SeeMe®, and Intel® Video Phone - and does not require proprietary devices.
- Evolving Platform: Visitalk is equipped to keep step with new technology and evolving demand as the Internet telephony market grows. The company's core infrastructure - based on its unique global directory - can support an evolving array of applications and Internet connected communications devices: PCs, telephones, wireless telephones, personal information management devices, and information appliances, such as set-top boxes.
Visitalk services include:
